Ethnic Drinks: Opera Stage

For this project, we are creating a series of beverages and sauces base on a region of our choice.

I decided on my hometown China. But more specifically on the theme Beijing Opera or Peking Opera. I feel this a good way to revisit my childhood of watching opera in our local theater. I decided that the drinks would be different flavor of tea since the opera is typically targetted towards an older audience. And light and dark soy sauce as my condiment as I found they share a naming method including the word “Sheng” and “Lao”.

Peking Opera was initially called Hui Opera. It gradually became Peking Opera after 1828. Peking Opera typically includes 4 categories of character Sheng, Dan, Jing, and Chou, which inspired my designs.
